Amarillo Apartment Fire Causes $15,000 in Damages

The Amarillo Fire Department says a fire that occurred Wednesday night caused $15,000 in damages.

According to AFD, crews were dispatched around 8:25pm on Wednesday on the report of a fire at the Treepoint Meadows Apartments at 4711 Virginia. Crews arrived at 8:30pm and found heavy smoke coming from the front door of apartment 1805. The female occupant of the apartment had escaped and was sitting outside. Crews entered and found a moderate amount of fire in the living room.

The apartment complex was evacuated and searched for possible fires. The fire was called under control at 8:43pm and evacuees were let back into the apartments. The female who had escaped Apartment 1805 was transferred to a local hospital for possible smoke inhalation injuries.

Amarillo Fire Marshal's reports indicate that the fire was started by a candle in the living room. The fire is believed to have been accidental.

Damages have been estimated at $15,000.
