Final Texas Blockbuster Store Closes

The only remaining Blockbuster video rental store in Texas has closed its doors for good.

Over the weekend, the Blockbuster store in Edinburg, Texas closed its doors for good. The store posted a small sign on its doors telling customers that the long-time video rental location, and former franchisee of the titan Blockbuster company, is closing.

“It is with great sadness to announce that the last Blockbuster in Texas will close its doors,” the sign on the door told customers.

Blockbuster customers can shop at the store's liquidation sell until Friday.

At one time, Blockbuster was a titan video rental company with thousands of locations across the United States. Shortly after being purchased by Dish Network in 2013 during its Chapter 11 Bankruptcy filing, the chain closed down most of its stores.

The company still has six locations in Alaska and two in Oregon.
