Due to a reportedly high number of DWI law violations in the city limits of Amarillo, the Amarillo Police Department is planning to team up with the Texas Department of Public Safety to increase patrol.
According to APD, DPS has awarded APD a grant to fund increased patrol. During the time of this grant, beginning on October 5th, residents can expect to see more APD and DPS units on the streets in areas where “higher incidents involving DWI crashes and fatalities” have been seen.
Authorities say they hope the partnership will result in a decreased total of DWI-related accidents.
As of right now, it is unclear whether the extra APD and DPS units will be on the streets only to enforce DWI laws. It has also not been revealed in which areas the units will be placed.
