If you are an employee of the City of Amarillo, you might want to watch your bank statements.
On Wednesday, the City of Amarillo informed employees that personal information for various employees, such as social security numbers, bank account numbers, routing numbers and more, may have been compromised. A letter to employees also said as a result, the City would provide credit monitoring for one year.
City spokesperson David Henry confirmed Thursday that a letter was sent out notifying employees of the possible information loss.
“Yes, it was sent out yesterday,” Henry said.
ABC 7 Amarillo first reported Miller’s letter, saying a password encrypted flash drive is missing from City Hall. City officials were notified by an outside auditor regarding the flash drive’s disappearance. The flash drive contained the personal information for employees.
If employees find any suspicious activity on bank statements or other personal accounts, they are asked by City officials to file a police report. However, Henry says as of Thursday, the City has not been informed of any employees filing a police report.
