Representative Mac Thornberry (R-Clarendon) played an important role in yesterday’s House leadership vote, according to reports.
On Wednesday, several sources reported Thornberry nominated California Republican Kevin McCarthy for House Minority Leader during the Republican caucus’ vote. Members were voting on selecting a new minority leader, as Republicans lost control of the U.S. House earlier this month and Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wisconsin) is retiring.
McCarthy, a longtime fixture of the party’s leadership, eventually won the race, but did not take the job unopposed. Jim Jordan, an Ohio Republican, challenged McCarthy. Jordan ended up falling short against McCarthy, with the Californian taking the job, 159-43 votes.
