Electric Light Parade Returning This Weekend

Downtown should be a little bit brighter this weekend.

On Friday, the Amarillo Electric Light Parade will be held downtown, presented by Center City. As in past years, the parade will be led by City officials, with a planned route along historic Polk Street.

Known as a fixture of the holiday season in Amarillo, the electric light parade is held between Thanksgiving and Christmas nearly every year. The parade features floats from local politicians, non-profits, businesses and more. Radio stations have also been frequently seen blasting tunes for attendees along the parade route.

There has also been a mastery to the floats of the past years. Last year, the float for the “Texas” musical took home the top prize for entries. But, “Texas,” was not the only impressive float entered, as many businesses put out their best efforts to create a festive float to share with the community.

This year’s float will be held along Polk Street, with a destination of the Amarillo Civic Center Complex. There, the city’s Christmas tree will be lighted and Santa Claus will be in attendance to meet the children of Amarillo.

The parade is set to begin at 6PM on Friday, November 30th.
