Kel Seliger and John Smithee have been elected back to Austin.
On Tuesday night, voters gave Republican legislators Kel Seliger and John Smithee their tickets back to the Statehouse. In the Senate race, Seliger defeated Libertarian Jack B. Westbrook to earn another term, winning 88 percent to Westbrook’s 12 percent. Seliger earned a second term, after narrowly surviving a three-way primary in March against Midland’s Mike Canon and Amarillo restaurant owner Victor Leal. Seliger did not face a Democratic opponent in November.
In House District 86, Smithee won another term, overcoming a challenge from Democrat Mike Purcell. Purcell, a retired teacher, won 18 percent of the vote to 82 percent for the incumbent Smithee, an attorney and businessman.
Also, on Tuesday night, Four Price won re-election to the Texas House. He was unopposed.
