A time change is facing residents attending Tuesday’s meeting of the Amarillo City Council.
On Tuesday, Amarillo City Councilmembers have changed their regular meeting time to 2PM. This time change was made in order to accommodate the desire of City officials to attend the name reveal ceremony for Amarillo Professional Baseball. The time change is not expected to affect the public comment time, set to begin at noon. That meeting will last for one hour.
Also, on Tuesday, Councilmembers will consider approving the purchase of a warehouse located at 701 Southeast 5th Avenue. The warehouse is appraised at $143,802 in Potter-Randall Appraisal District records, but Council is considering spending $700,000 “plus closing costs and inspection related expenses” to complete the transaction. The property is owned by 701 SE 5th LLC.
The property at 701 Southeast 5th was recently advertised on social media by McCartt & Associates. At the time, the warehouse was pitched as being “centrally located in downtown” and a possible location for an office, restaurant or bar, with a spokesperson commenting the property would make a “great sports bar.”
McCartt & Associates’ president is Joe Bob McCartt, who has been a partner in other business ventures with Kevin Nelson in the past, according to a McCartt press release from 2006. Nelson is the husband of Mayor Ginger Nelson.
Additionally, on Tuesday’s agenda, Councilmembers will consider spending $102,595 on software through NuPark. The software includes a subscription cost of $28,125, with one-time hardware costs of $37,235 per vehicle for cameras, printers, and tablets, according to the agenda.
Councilmembers will meet in the Council Chambers of Amarillo City Hall (509 Southeast 7th Avenue).
