Amarillo City Councilman Eddy Sauer is planning to make a campaign announcement this week.
On Tuesday, Sauer will make a campaign announcement on Facebook Live at 3:30PM. The announcement does not appear to have an in-person component as the Councilman will be announcing his plans for the 2019 elections. It is unclear whether Sauer, an Amarillo dentist, plans to retire after one term or run for another term on the body.
Sauer was elected in 2017, benefiting from heavy fundraising and support from Amarillo Matters PAC, a political action committee aligned with downtown interests. Sauer defeated Tom Warren II to win the spot and replaced Councilman Randy Burkett.
If Sauer announces a re-election bid, he would join the race unopposed at this point. Mayor Ginger Nelson and Councilman Howard Smith are both running for re-election, as well, and are expected to face challengers.
