The Texas Tribune is calling the race for Amarillo's District 31 State Senate seat one of the "hottest" races in the entire Lone Star State.
On March 6th, Amarillo voters will head to the polls to help decide the race for the District 31 Senate seat. The district, which extends down to Midland, includes the majority of the West Texas region, excluding Lubbock. Incumbent Senator Kel Seliger, Republican, is facing two challengers in his primary contest: Amarillo restaurant owner Victor Leal and former Midland mayor Mike Canon.
All eyes have been on the contest for some time and in new rankings, officials at the Texas Tribune are now calling the race one of the "hottest" in the state. District 31 is one of four senate races placed in the "hottest" category.
Also, in regional elections, the nearby District 88 for the Texas House has been categorized as "hot." The race pits three-term incumbent Ken King against insurance broker Jason Huddleston and former Perryton Independent School District trustee Richard Beyea.
