City Council Eyeing New Regulations on Ridesharing Companies

The Amarillo City Council is considering approving new regulations for ridesharing companies at Amarillo's airport.

According to an agenda released for Tuesday's meeting of the Amarillo City Council, officials are considering approving new regulations that will be aimed at ridesharing drivers providing services at Rick Husband International Airport. An agenda for the meeting specifically named Lyft and Uber and says that the new regulations are being considered to solve several objectives. Among those objectives are: establishing a uniform commercial ground vehicle operating standard, provide revenues to maintain airport systems that support commercial ground vehicle traffic on the airport, and compensating the airport for administration and enforcement of the operating standards.

If approved by the City Council, officials say the rules will be the "guiding standard" for commercial ground vehicle operations at Rick Husband International Airport in Amarillo.

Also during Tuesday's meeting, Councilmembers will consider allowing Lil Abner's Lounge (5001 South Western) a variance from the Amarillo Municipal Code that would allow the store to sell alcoholic beverages for off-premise consumption within 300 feet of a school.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 20th in the Council Chambers of Amarillo City Hall (509 Southeast 7th Avenue). The meeting will begin 5pm.
