Two fires in Amarillo that occurred on Tuesday caused a combined $65,000 in damages.
According to the Amarillo Fire Department, crews were first dispatched to a fire at 1806 Kimberly on Tuesday. At 5:53am, crews were dispatched to the fire at 1806 Kimberly, where heavy smoke and fire were seen coming from the roof of a duplex. Crews experienced difficulty gaining access to the fire, but were able to call the fire under control at 7:48am.
Officials say that crews responded to a fire in the attic of this structure a day before this call and the Tuesday fire is believed to be a rekindle of the previous fire.
Damages are estimated at $40,000.
Also on Tuesday, crews were dispatched to a fire at 308 N. Hill at 10:18am. When crews arrived, they found a dumpster, a wooden fence and two outbuildings on fire. Authorities say that a dumpster had caught a mattress in the alley on fire, which, in turn, caught a fence on fire and two other buildings.
A garage at 306 N. Hill experienced moderate damage and a storage building, fence and chicken coop at 308 N. Hill experienced extensive damages. Three chickens were also killed in the fire.
Damages for this fire are estimated at $25,000.
