The Texas Department of Transportation in Amarillo is preparing for poor road conditions this week.
According to TxDOT, crews are preparing for winter weather that is expected to hit the area over the next several days. Crews in the Amarillo area have treated roads with brine water and bridges and overpasses have been salted.
Officials say sleet, snow and freezing rain is expected throughout the next two days and snow is also possible. During these times drivers are encouraged to use safety on the roadways. Measures suggested include:
Reducing speed
Using caution on bridges, ramps and overpasses
Maintaining at least three times the normal following distance is snow
Carrying warm clothes in case you get stranded.
