Pet Owners Asked to Use Leashes After Dog Surrendered with Jumper Cables

Amarillo pet owners are being asked to use appropriate leashes after a dog was surrendered locally with jumper cables.

According to the department of Amarillo Animal Management & Welfare, a dog was surrendered at an Amarillo shelter with jumper cables being substituted for a leash. Officials from the Animal Shelter immediately condemned the action on social media and called for pet owners to use appropriate leashes.

"Walking your animal on a leash is very important," AAM&W wrote online. "There are many options of approved leashes to use, jumper cables are not one."

For information about appropriate harnesses, leashes and collars, as recommended by the American Kennel Club, please visit www.akc.org.
