Officials from the City of Canyon will be implementing "Stage 2" of the City's Drought Contingency Plan, according to information released this week.
In a statement released Wednesday, the City of Canyon said that while in has been under Stage 1 of its plan since 2011, it has decided to move to Stage 2, effective immediately. Officials say that the east elevated water tower is currently out of service and a historic drought is underway, prompting the change in plans.
Under the new plans, water consumption is encouraged to be reduced by 10 percent. Addresses ending in odd numbers will only be allowed to water on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Addresses ending in even numbers will be allowed to water only be allowed on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays each week. Watering will only be allowed during the hours of 8pm until 12pm or 12am to 8am on the designated days. Sprinkler irrigation is also banned on Mondays. Hand watering will be allowed for one hour per day, any day of the week.
Any violations of the plan could result in a fine between $50 and $500.
