The largest union in the United States representing federal employees has announced that it is backing Congressman Beto O'Rourke (D-El Paso) for the U.S. Senate.
This morning, the American Federation of Government Employees announced its endorsement of Beto O'Rourke for the U.S. Senate. O'Rourke, an El Paso Democrat, earned the group's endorsement on behalf of the 200,000 federal employees living in Texas who are part of the union.
"He bested an eight-term incumbent to win election to Congress in 2012 and has been representing the great people of El Paso for the past six years," AFGE national vice president Cheryl Eliano said in a press release. "He's got what it takes to do it again in November and deliver a Texas-size win to working people in this state."
O'Rourke is the Democratic nominee for Texas' U.S. Senate seat in the November 2018 general election. O'Rourke is running in his first statewide race and will face incumbent Republican Ted Cruz in November. Candidates for the Libertarian Party and Green Party have yet to be announced.
