This week, a Northeastern United States Democrat floated El Paso Democrat Beto O'Rourke as a possible candidate for president in 2020.
Joe Kennedy, III, a Pennsylvania Democrat serving in the U.S. House of Representatives, said on a Facebook Live stream on Wednesday that he believes that O'Rourke could be a candidate for president in 2020. Kennedy, who has also been discussed as a possible candidate, said during a joking conversation between himself and O'Rourke that he believes that O'Rourke's experience running in a heavily Republican state like Texas could set him up for victory in a national contest.
"Look, for a Democrat, at the moment, to be able win statewide in Texas, I actually think is more difficult than to run for president," Kennedy said.
O'Rourke is currently running for the U.S. Senate in 2018, challenging Republican incumbent Ted Cruz. Meanwhile, Kennedy has been floated as a potential candidate for president, himself, after delivering the Democratic Party's response to President Donald Trump's State of the Union address earlier this year.
