West Texas A&M University officials announced this week that Dr. Lal Almas has been appointed interim Dean of Agriculture and Natural Sciences at the school.
Almas was named interim dean this week following the passing of Dr. Dean Hawkins, who was serving as dean of the Paul Engler College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences. The announcement was made on Tuesday by Dr. Walter Wendler, president of WTAMU.
“This is a difficult time for the University but especially for those in the Paul Engler College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences,” Wendler said. “It’s nice knowing we have the expertise and leadership of Dr. Almas to help move the college forward and continue the work that meant so much to Dr. Hawkins. I am confident he will do an outstanding job.”
Almas joined the WTAMU Department of Agricultural Sciences in 2001 and was named associate dean in June 2016. Almas holds as D.V.M. from the University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Pakistan, an M.S. in agricultural business and economics from WTAMU and an M.S. in statistics and Ph.D. in agricultural and applied economics from Texas Tech University.
