Martindale Wins Randall Court Spot, Avoiding Runoff

Matt Martindale looks set to become the next judge for the Randall County Court at Law #2.

On Tuesday night, Martindale claimed victory in the Republican race for the Randall County Court at Law #2 position. Martindale, a country musician and criminal defense attorney, won 8,284, or about 52 percent, in the three-way Republican primary for the open judicial position. James Abbott, a Canyon divorce and criminal defense attorney, won 5,076 votes, or 32 percent. Attorney Stewart R. Werner rounded out the field with 2,644 votes, or about 17 percent.

Martindale will not face a Democrat or third-party candidate in November and will likely succeed the retiring Judge Ronnie Walker in 2019.
