Two Amarillo attorneys are headed to a runoff to decide the race for the vacant Potter County Court at Law #1 position.
On Tuesday night, Republican voters sent Len Walker and Walt Weaver to a runoff to decide the party's nomination for the Potter County Court at Law #1 seat. According to unofficial tallies from Potter County, Weaver's two opponents narrowly held him from the nomination, with Weaver receiving 3,388 or 48 percent of the vote. Walker earned his spot in the runoff with 2,722 votes, or 39 percent. Kerry Brian Haney rounded out the field with 932 votes or about 13 percent.
Walker and Weaver are both former prosecutors and current attorneys practicing in Amarillo.
The winner of the Republican nomination will likely not face an opponent in the November general election and will succeed the retiring Judge W.F. "Corky" Roberts.
Voters will decide the runoff on May 22nd.
