"David Korevaar, a prolific recording artist and the Helen and Peter Weil Professor of Piano at the University of Colorado Boulder, will be the featured performer in a Guest Artist Recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 26 at Amarillo College.
The recital, which is free and open to the public, will be presented in the Concert Hall Theater on the Washington Street Campus.
Korevaar, a Shigeru Kawai Artist, will perform works by Beethoven, Liebermann, Liszt and Schubert on one of AC’s new Shigeru series Kawai grand pianos.
The guest artist is familiar not only with the instrument he will play at AC, but with the host of AC’s Guest Artist Recital Series, Dr. Diego Caetano, assistant professor of music. Caetano studied under Korevaar at CU Boulder.
“It is with great pleasure that I welcome David Korevaar to our campus,” Caetano said. “He was my teacher and also is a Shigeru Kawai Artist, as was his teacher, Earl Wild, one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century. What a delight it is for me to be part of three generations so in love with the same piano.
“His performance will include outstanding music, including all-time favorites ‘Rêves d'amour’ by Liszt and ‘Moonlight Sonata’ by Beethoven. This is a chance for our audience to hear one of the most prolific recording artists of our time – he has an extensive and varied repertoire and more than 20 CDs to his credit.”
Korevaar, who under Wild earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Julliard School by age 20, went on to complete a Doctor of Musical Arts degree there under Abbey Simon.
He has performed throughout the U.S., Europe, and Asia a as soloist and chamber musician. He has performed nationally from Boston, New York and Washington, DC to Chicago, Cincinnati, Houston, Dallas and San Diego. Korevaar’s international performances have included appearances in Australia, Japan, Korea, Abu Dhabi and Europe.
