Amarillo College to Host Creative Arts Panel

"The Creative Arts Community at Amarillo College is pleased to introduce a series of career-focused panel discussions featuring successful creative arts professionals with a wide range of expertise.

All degree programs at AC are aligned with one of nine Communities, including the Creative Arts Community, to help students successfully choose and complete programs of study that match their goals for employment and further education.

The inaugural “Careers in the Creative Arts” panel discussion will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 25 in the College Union Building Oak Room on the Washington Street Campus.

The event, which will feature a question-and-answer session, drawings for coffee coupons and theater tickets, and complimentary refreshments, is free and open to the public.

Panelists scheduled to take part on April 25 are:

  • Steve Bargas – front-end web developer at Computer Services, Inc. of Amarillo

  • Ralph Duke – longtime professional photographer in Amarillo

  • David Korevaar – professor of piano at University of Colorado—Boulder; graduate of the Julliard School

  • Kelly Podzemny – digital media coordinator with Texas Tech Health Sciences Center

  • Jon Revett – professional artist and professor of art at West Texas A&M University

Vicky Taylor-Gore, dean of liberal arts, says the Creative Arts Community hopes to present at least one such panel discussion each semester in the foreseeable future, inviting different panelists in rotating disciplines.

“We want to put more focus on careers in the creative arts,” Taylor-Gore said. “Our panelists will share their professional experiences and provide tips and inspiration. It’s an excellent way for students who aspire to these professions to get a taste of the variety of opportunities presented by the creative arts from people who successfully make their living at it.”

The “Careers in the Creative Arts” panel-discussion series is supported by these AC student organizations: Art Collective, Command Z, Photo Club, and Student Media."
