Texas Man Sentenced to 50 Years in Prison After Theft of Fajitas

A Texas man has been sentenced to fifty years in prison after reportedly stealing $1.2 million worth of fajitas over nine years.

On Monday, the Brownsville Herald reported that Gilberto Escamilla, 53, was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty on the fajita theft charges. Escamilla plead on the charge of stealing $1.2 million worth of fajita meat over nine years. Escamilla had taken orders of fajitas headed for the Darrel B. Hester Juvenile Center and delivered them to his own customers.

Escamilla was arrested in August after being fired. Authorities uncovered the fajita controversy when Escamilla missed work and an 800 pound shipment of fajitas arrived at the facility, which does not serve fajitas. Authorities checked invoices and obtained a search warrant, after which they found fajita meat in Escamilla's refrigerator.

Following the sentencing, Judge J. Manuel Banales dismissed the first count of theft in the indictment as part of the plea, according to the Herald.
