"West Texas A&M University is initiating an easier transfer process for criminal justice students at South Plains College (SPC).
With increasing demand for law enforcement professionals, an articulation agreement between these neighboring institutions will make obtaining a baccalaureate degree a little smoother for transfer students. Now, SPC students who plan to transfer to WTAMU are eligible for degree credits while also receiving advising services and resources offered through the criminal justice department prior to enrolling at WTAMU.
“The expectation for our partnership is to encourage SPC graduates to continue their baccalaureate studies at WT and fulfill their potential within the criminal justice community,” Yancy Nunez, dean of the Arts and Sciences at SPC, said.
Students coming from SPC will have early access to the successful criminal justice network among WTAMU professionals, which make up 30 percent of law enforcement, 40 percent of the probation departments and 30 percent of victim service areas in the Texas Panhandle.
“The articulation agreement between South Plains College and West Texas A&M University will provide bridges between the excellent criminal justice programs at both schools. This gives our future criminal justice professionals an outstanding academic foundation through which our students will succeed in life,” Dr. Harry Hueston, professor of criminal justice at WTAMU, said.
WTAMU offers a bachelor’s degree with emphasis in administration, corrections or policing and a master’s degree. Classes are offered on campus or online. The program has received national recognition from College Choice and the U.S. News & World Report since 2016.
“Articulation agreements like this one are a win for both schools, our state and our students by saving time and money as they transfer credit hours from the two-year community college to the four-year university,” Dr. Lance Scott, chair of SPC’s professional services and energy department and associate professor of law enforcement, said. “South Plains College and West Texas A&M are preparing students to be work-ready upon graduation, which benefits our local and statewide law enforcement and corrections industries and our economy.”
WTAMU officials will be at SPC for a College Stampede Day from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 25. For more information, call admissions at 806-651-2020."
