Sunray PD Executes Search Warrant on Former Principal

The Sunray Police Department is investigating a former high school principal.

On Tuesday, the Sunray Police Department executed a search warrant on a shop and vehicle located at 1020 Avenue J in Sunray. The shop and vehicle are under the control of Sidney Whiteley, 51, a former Sunray High School prinicipal.

Officers reportedly found numerous items of illegal contraband during the search, including drug paraphernalia, numerous syringes containing measurable amounts of substance believed to be controlled substances, numerous items of packaging material indicative to the delivery of controlled substances or illegal drugs, numerous cellular phones, a laptop, a tablet, and a digital camera. Sunray PD also reports finding luggage and clothing associated with out of state documentation.

In a statement, Tim Dean, Sunray Police Chief, said that authorities intend to investigate and retrieve data through experts.

“All of these evidentiary items will require laboratory testing and data retrieval through experts in order to evaluate what, if any, criminal charges will stem from our investigation and search of the property,” Dean said. “We will proceed and coordinate our investigation with other police agencies as needed. We want to identify who the out of state people are, their ages, where they are now, and ensure they are safe.” Said Chief Dean.

The warrant was executed after Whiteley was arrested at an Amarillo hotel earlier this month in relation to drug charges. Two other people were also arrested by Amarillo Police during that incident.

Sunray Police say that this remains an active and ongoing investigation.
