West Texas A&M University’s Tucker Milholland is motivated and determined to make a positive impact on the world. As an Agriculture Future of America (AFA) Campus Ambassador, he is off to a good start.
From work experiences to leadership and volunteer opportunities, Milholland, a WTAMU sophomore agricultural economics major from Fruita, Colo., pursues experiences that set him apart from his peers. AFA provides personal and professional development experiences for college students and young professionals in food and agriculture. Providing leader development, intern support and scholarships, AFA seeks to be a catalyst in the preparation of a new generation of agriculture leaders. Milholland and his fellow team members serve as ambassadors between AFA and their college campuses and AFA’s corporate partners.
“When I came to college, I was looking to become a greater version of myself. I wanted to be part of an organization that allowed me to develop both professionally and personally, and I believe AFA has done just that,” he said.
Milholland and the other 15 Campus Ambassadors were selected through a competitive application process to serve as AFA’s student voice and represent their peers on a national level. Milholland says he is looking forward to his experiences with the team.
“I cannot wait to serve not only my fellow students at West Texas A&M University but also the many other students across this country. I hope to build an environment through AFA that allows for growth and development,” Milholland said.
In addition to serving as a liaison between AFA and their respective campuses, the Ambassadors will assist the Student Advisory Team in delivering the 2018 AFA Leaders Conference. Scheduled for Nov. 1-4 in Kansas City, Mo., this event is AFA’s core leader development program and with more than 800 delegates from across the nation in attendance. The Student Advisory Team and 16 AFA Campus Ambassadors met April 12-14 to kick off this planning process with team training and theme setting exercises.
“Through the AFA Leaders Conference, I have been able to meet so many amazing young leaders from across the country,” Milholland said. “The outstanding professionals who come year after year to share their wisdom have made my time with AFA priceless.”
Milholland’s entrance into the AFA leader development program began in 2015 when he was selected as an AFA Leader and Academic Scholar and attended AFA Leaders Conference. He also attended Conference this past fall. In addition to his involvement with AFA, Milholland has also been active in other organizations including FFA and 4-H.
