The two Democrats locked in a runoff for the party's nomination for governor will meet for their first and only debate of the election season this Friday.
On Friday, May 11th, Valdez and White will meet for a debate in Austin, hosted by the city's KXAN-TV. The debate will be show on live television in Austin and on the station's website, kxan.com, according to available information. The one-hour debate will begin at 7pm and will be moderated by Gromer Jeffers of the Dallas Morning News.
According to available information, the debate will be presented by the State Tejano Democrats, Texas Coalition of Black Democrats, Texas College Democrats, Texas Young Democrats, Texas Stonewall Democrats and the Travis County Democratic Party. Organizers are billing the highly-anticipated debate as the "Grassroots Debate."
Valdez, the former Dallas sheriff, and White, a Houston businessman, are currently the last two Democrats standing from a nine candidate field which sought the party's nomination for governor on March 6th. The winner of the runoff will be decided on May 22nd.
