The City of Amarillo has released more information on a series of a events that led to a pregnant female dog being euthanized with her puppies while in labor.

On Friday, the City released emergency communications recordings and photographs that appeared to show the aftermath of a dog fight. City manager Jared Miller stated that the dog fight, which included the pregnant dog, sent one person to the hospital with bites. The male dog in the altercation was collected and euthanized. City staff also report that the female dog was euthanized following a second incident, in which the pregnant dog was collected after a second attack on residents of the dog's home.

Following the release of the information, Mayor Ginger Nelson chimed in, stating that she supports Animal Management & Welfare and that she condemns threats against City of Amarillo staff.

"I am very concerned about the pain and potential recovery of a man who was injured by a dog attack and a family that has been traumatized by the dogs they surrendered," Nelson said. "I am also shocked and burdened that compassionate, animal-loving people would lash out against other people with words of extreme hate and threats of violence."
