The question of who will lead the Republican Party into the November general election will be decided this week.
At the Republican State Convention in San Antonio, party voters will decide this week who the chairperson of the party will be. Whoever wins the race will likely lead the party through mid-2020.
In the race, the incumbent, James Dickey, is seeking re-election. Dickey originally won his spot in a 2017 special election, defeating businessman Rick Figueroa. Dickey and Figueroa were running in a special election to succeed Amarillo's Tom Mechler, who had stepped down from the role. Outside of the party, Dickey is co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of IMGA.
Dickey is being challenged this year by Cindy Asche. Asche is a nurse from Frisco. Asche has won a number of endorsements, including from local party activist Tom Roller and from former chairman Tom Mechler.
