Mechler Supporting Asche for Party Chairman

An Amarillo resident who previously served as chairman of the Texas Republican Party is supporting a challenger for the spot he once held.

As the High Plains Pundit's Dan Butcher reports, on Tuesday night, Tom Mechler endorsed Cindy Asche at a gathering of the High Plains Republican Women in Amarillo. Butcher says that Mechler spoke before those gathered and announced his support of Asche.

Asche, a nurse from Frisco, is challenging incumbent chairman James Dickey for the chairmanship role at the upcoming Texas Republican Convention. Dickey assumed the chairmanship after defeating businessman Rick Figueroa in a special election to replace Mechler last year, after Mechler resigned.
