Amarillo ISD Board to Consider Resignation of Member

Trustees for the Amarillo Independent School District will consider accepting a resignation from one of its board members next week.

According to an agenda posted for a meeting on Thursday, officials with Amarillo ISD will consider accepting the resignation of a board member next week. At the same time, Trustees will discuss and consider a process for selecting a replacement for the outgoing board member.

From the documents provided, it is unclear which trustee is planning to resign. Trustees are elected in May of every odd numbered year in Amarillo, in sets of three to four trustees at one time. The current board is made up of Jim Austin, James Allen, John Betancourt, John Ben Blanchard, F. Scott Flow, Renee McCown and Cristy Cooper Wilkinson. Allen, Blanchard, McCown and Wilkinson were all elected to four year terms in 2017. Austin, Betancourt and Flow will be up for re-election in May of 2019.

In addition to the resignation, board members will consider approving an agreement between Amarillo College, Amarillo ISD, the Amarillo Area Foundation and the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation to establish the Thrive Scholarship program. Board members will also select a delegate and an alternate for the Texas Association of School Boards assembly.

The Board will meet on Thursday, June 21st at 6pm in the Board Room of the Amarillo ISD Education Support Center (7200 Interstate 40 West).
