Governor Greg Abbott has announced the award of $13 million in grants to Texas for commercial and recreational fishing industry rebuilding.
According to the Governor's Office, Texas has received $13 million in grant funding for the rebuilding of commercial and recreational fishing industries in Texas. The grant to rebuild comes after Governor Abbott sent a letter to Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross in February asking for recognition of a federal fishery resources disaster in Texas.
Following the announcement of the grant, Abbott praised Secretary Ross and the federal government for assisting with the rebuilding efforts.
"The economic impact of Texas' commercial and recreational fishing industries is of tremendous importance to both residents and tourists alike," Abbott said in a statement. "These funds will provide coastal businesses with the additional resources they require in order to make a full recovery. I thank our federal partners and Secretary Ross for recognizing the critical role the fishing industry plays in the Lone Star State and the U.S. economy."
