The U.S. House of Representatives voted against an immigration bill on Wednesday that had received the support of one local politician.
On Thursday, the U.S. House of Representatives voted 121-301 on the Border Security and Immigration Reform Act of 2018. The vote killed the bill for the current day's proceedings, after a motion to recommit with constructions also failed, prior to the bill's proceedings.
Congressman Mac Thornberry (R-Clarendon) was one of 121 representatives to back the bill. Every favorable vote on the bill came from Republicans in the chamber, while 112 Republicans and a unanimous Democratic caucus of 189 voted against the bill. Included in those who voted against the bill was Jodey Arrington. Arrington is a Republican who represents the district that includes part of the Texas Panhandle and Lubbock.
According to Congress.gov, the bill would have amended existing immigration laws for purposes dealing with "border security." The bill was authored by Representative Bob Goodlatte (R-Virginia).
