Governor Abbott Appoints Statewide Student Regents

Governor Greg Abbott has announced the appointment of student regents for various university systems in Texas.

This week, Abbott announced the appointments, along with a student appointment to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Under state law, the governor is allowed to appoint a non-voting student regent for each public university system, with specific requirements for the regents to follow.

According to a press release, the following students were appointed to university boards of regents:

  • For Midwestern State University: Leia De La Garza of San Antonio (B.S. in Criminal Justice/Midwestern State University)

  • For Stephen F. Austin State University: Kate Childress of Lumberton (M.A. in Student Affairs and Higher Education/Stephen F. Austin State University)

  • For Texas A&M University System: Ervin Bryant of Spring (B.A. in History/Prairie View A&M University)

  • For Texas Southern University: Kernard Jones of Houston (B.A. in Political Science/Texas Southern University)

  • For Texas State University System: Leanna Mouton of Houston (B.B.A./Texas State University)

  • For Texas Tech University System: Jane Gilmore of Dallas (Doctor of Medicine/Texas Tech University Health Science Center School of Medicine)

  • For Texas Women's University: Emily Galbraith of Waxahachie (B.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders/Texas Women's University)

  • For University of Houston System: Andrew Teoh of Tyler (B.B.A. in Accounting and Finance/University of Houston)

  • For University of North Texas System: Amanda Pajares of Bartlett (J.D./University of North Texas at Dallas College of Law)

  • For University of Texas System: Brittany Jewell of Pearland (Ph.D. in Cell and Regulatory Biology/Texas Health Science Center at Houston)

Additionally, Abbott announced appointing Michelle Quynh Nhu Tran of Houston to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Tran is a mathematics student from the University of Houston.
