Editorial: Be Cautious of Politicians and Promises

In a political environment dominated by posturing, pandering and pick-pocketing, voters should be very cautious.

It is no secret that today's political environment is dominated by politicians with grand promises. However, this is not a new thing, as politicians have been running with grand promises for decades, often failing to deliver. This is extremely relevant to locals in Amarillo, as Texas has elections coming soon. Also, voters will decide local races soon after.

What does all of this mean? Maybe nothing. But, remember that this City Council ran on a platform of 'changing the tone.' In contrast, during their first term in office, Amarillo City Hall has been scandal plagued.

Did the City Council deliver on its promise in this case? I don't think so, but it's up to you to decide.

So, in 2018 and 2019, be very cautious of politicians selling magical snake oil remedies for the ailments of government. Often times, these politicians are all talk and no walk, just seeking the office to have a title or help out friends.
