Canyon City Commissioners will meet next week to discuss a proposed tax rate for the City of Canyon, as well as other key municipal operations.
According to an agenda released by the City of Canyon, City Commissioners will meet next week for a special meeting. First, during the meeting, Commissioners will meet in executive session with an attorney to discuss appointments to municipal boards. Specifically, Commissioners will address appointments to the Canyon Economic Development Corporation. The agenda does not specify whether Commissioners will consider an appointment to the board following the executive session meeting.
For the big ticket item on the meeting's agenda, Commissioners will discuss levying a tax increase on residents in the City of Canyon. Currently, Canyon residents pay $0.39083 per $100 in evaluation. If the City of Canyon's proposal is approved, residents will pay a tax rate of $0.4200 per $100 in evaluation, plus a $0.0566 interest and shrinking rate, for a combined tax rate of $0.4766.
On the tax increase topic, Commissioners plan to hold a voice vote on the issue, then call two separate public hearings. If approved, public hearings will be held on August 6th and August 20th, with Commissioners voting for a final approval on September 10th.
Canyon City Commissioners will meet on Tuesday, July 24th, in the Commission Chambers of Canyon City Hall (301 16th Street, Canyon). The meeting will be held at 1pm.
