The successor to longtime Amarillo Independent School District trustee James Allen has been selected.
On Tuesday, Amarillo ISD trustees voted unanimously to appoint Robin R. Malone to succeed Allen on the School Board. Malone, a licensed attorney currently serving as a paralegal program coordinator at Amarillo College, was selected from a field of four finalists to replace Allen.
Malone was one of two individuals who members of the Amarillo Branch NAACP recommended as a possible replacement for Allen. The other recommended individual was Claudia Stuart, who is an author and educator. Both Malone and Stuart were selected from an initial field of applicants to be included in the final selection of finalists.
In a statement released through Amarillo College, Malone said she is excited to have the opportunity to succeed Allen on the school board.
“I am deeply honored to be able to serve in this very important role,” Malone said.
Malone will now serve on the Amarillo ISD Board until a special election is held in May. Malone will have the option to run in that special election to win the seat for the final two years of Allen’s four-year term. Whoever wins the May special election will then serve until 2021, when an election will be held for a full four-year term.
