Amarillo College to Host Free Coding Seminar to High School Teachers

“Amarillo College, through its unique partnership with Apple, Inc., will host a free two-day intensive training seminar for up to 20 area high school teachers interested in learning Swift coding for iOS and Mac apps.

Representatives from Apple will lead the seminar from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on Oct. 4-5 in the Byrd Business Building, Room 213, on the Washington Street Campus.

The free seminar is limited to the first 20 teachers who register at actx.edu.

In-service credit from AC, Apple equipment for seminar use, and lunch will be provided. No programming experience is necessary.

For questions or more information, please contact DeWayne Higgs at (806) 371-5217, or Kathy Davenport at (806) 371-5269.

In March, Amarillo College joined a select group of Texas community colleges in a partnership with Apple, Inc., for the delivery of Apple’s Swift app-development curriculum.

AC’s Board of Regents unanimously approved the partnership with Apple, along with the requisite purchase of $55,000 worth of Apple products – MacBook Pros, iPads and iPad Touches.

As a result, AC now offers a new Level I Marketable Skills Certificate in iOS app development, which can be stacked into an 18-hour certificate in Coding and Design, which in turn will stack into an associate’s degree in Coding and Design.

Additionally, AC’s partnership with Apple, Inc., extends from providing important educational pathways for College students to training teachers across the region. They, in turn, can provide their students with coding knowledge that, ultimately, will add value and diversification to the regional economy.”
