A top Texas Tech University official who is currently the target of a removal effort led by a former Amarillo mayor has weighed in on the effort.
On Thursday, Rick Francis, the chairman of the Texas Tech University System Board of Regents, responded to a removal effort launched by former Amarillo mayor Jerry Hodge. The “Fire Francis” campaign is seeking citizens to write letters to Governor Greg Abbott seeking the removal of Francis from the board. Francis is currently serving in a six year term, with an expiration in January. Abbott will then have the option to reappoint Francis for another six year term, or to replace him with another official.
In a statement to EverythingLubbock.com, Francis responded to the removal effort, saying he is focused on working for the University system.
“The focus of the Texas Tech University System Board of Regents is providing Dr. Mitchell and our university presidents the resources and support necessary to maintain our system as a first-class institution of higher education,” Francis said. “We remain committed to our strategic priorities as we approach a pivotal legislative session.”
