The person who will fill the remainder of longtime Amarillo Independent School District trustee James Allen's term will likely be chosen next week.
On Tuesday, September 11th, the Amarillo ISD Board of Trustees will meet in a special meeting to choose the replacement for Allen on the Board. Trustees have been vetting candidates since August, after Allen abruptly resigned in June. Four finalists were chosen from a pool of applicants and trustees conducted interviews with the finalists on Thursday night.
The finalists named by the board are: Claudia Stuart, Robin Malone, Bowden Jones and Sherrie Clark.
As of Friday afternoon, there is no word yet on who is the leading contender to replace Allen.
Whoever is selected to replace Allen will hold the seat until a special election is held in May, 2019. Whoever wins the special election will then serve until May, 2021 and will be eligible to run for a full term that year.
The special meeting will be held on September 11th at 12pm in the Board Room of the Amarillo ISD Education Support Center (7200 Interstate 40 West).
