Cooke County Judge Jason Brinkley is exploring a bid to replace Mac Thornberry in the U.S. House of Representatives.

In a press release posted to his campaign Facebook page this week, Brinkley made the announcement, saying he knows “what it takes to get the job done.” Brinkley is a Republican who is in his second term as Cooke County Judge and previously served as Justice of the Peace in Cooke County. Brinkley holds degrees from Texas A&M University and Oklahoma City University School of Law.

Brinkley joins Amarillo City Councilwoman Elaine Hays in exploring a bid for the seat. Josh Winegarner, director of governmental relations for the Texas Cattle Feeders Association, is also reportedly considering joining the race for Thornberry’s seat. Democrat Greg Sagan is the only announced candidate in the contest.
