Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has filed to be a candidate for President of the United States in the 2020 Texas Democratic primary election, but has not yet declared his candidacy for the office.
According to filings with the Texas Secretary of State’s office, Bloomberg joins Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, California Sen. Kamala Harris, and South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg as a filed candidate in the primary. While he has not officially announced whether he will run for president in 2020, Bloomberg has also taken steps to file in a number of other states’ primaries, including in Alabama and Arkansas.
If Bloomberg enters the race, he will join a crowded primary field, as Buttigieg, Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren, and Bernie Sanders have recently been dominating headlines and polls in the contest.
Candidates will have until December 9 to file for a place on the ballot.
