Before we know it, the year will change and we will be sitting in 2020. This upcoming year is sure to have lots of events, some spectacular and others underwhelming, to report. However, I want to look specifically at the elections on the ballot in 2020 as we look ahead to the new year.
Next year, voters will be heading to the polls to decide several very important contests. The 13th Congressional District will be picking its first new U.S. Representative in over twenty years. Voters in the Panhandle and West Texas will be picking a new representative for the State Board of Education. Lots of local incumbents will have challengers and hopeful successors. I have also heard something about a presidential election. Don’t forget that Amarillo will also be deciding a massive Civic Center bond election next year.
Considering all of these extremely important elections, I encourage each and every Amarilloan who is eligible to learn about the candidates and issue, register to vote, and make their voice heard. These elections deserve high turnout and high voter engagement and I hope Amarillo will deliver in 2020.
