The candidates running to replace U.S. Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-Clarendon) have kicked their fundraising efforts into fifth gear ahead of the first major fundraising deadline of the cycle.
Candidates running for federal offices in 2020 have until December 31st to collect funds before the FEC “close-of-books” deadline. The deadline means that any funds raised after this time will not be reported on the finance report due on January 31, 2020. Finance reports are often used by the media and pundits to gauge financial strength of candidates and their campaigns.
Over the past week, a number of candidates running for the seat have been attempting to raise money online. Republican hopeful Elaine Hays sent an email to supporters last week seeking donations and has run several social media posts seeking contributions. Vance Snider, who is also seeking the Republican nomination, went with a creative way to raise funds, asking voters to contribute $13 to his campaign, noting that he is running for office in Texas’ 13th Congressional District.
Fifteen Republicans, three Democrats, and one Libertarian candidate are running for the seat in 2020. For information about their campaigns’ financial reports, visit fec.gov.
