Several new candidates have filed for spots on the ballot ahead of the 2020 race for the 13th Congressional District seat.
According to the Texas Republican Party, Matt McArthur and Lee Harvey have both filed to join the growing field of candidates looking to replace outgoing U.S. Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-Clarendon). A few other candidates have also declared their intentions to run but have not yet submitted the necessary paperwork to claim their spot on the ballot.
In addition, this week Catherine I. Swear filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission in preparation for a possible bid for the seat. Swear lists her committee as being based out of Austin. Swear has not filed for a place on the ballot, as of this reporting.
With the entry of McArthur and Harvey into the race, eleven candidates have officially filed paperwork with the state party to run in the 2020 Republican primary. Two Democrats have also filed for spots on the ballot.
Candidates can continue to file for their place on the ballot through December 9. Election day is March 3, 2020.
