City Council to Renew Midnight Curfew

On Tuesday, the Amarillo City Council will consider ordering a curfew for certain citizens in Amarillo.

According to an agenda posted for Tuesday’s meeting, the City Council will consider renewing a curfew next week for citizens under the age of seventeen years. The City says the curfew will begin at 12:01AM every night and will run through 6AM, with the aim of “reducing crime committed by juveniles and reduce the number of juveniles who are victimized by night crime.”

The hours in the ordinance will be identical to those in the original 2016 ordinance, officials say.

Also, during the meeting, the Amarillo City Council will consider signing off on eliminating one corporal position at the Amarillo Police Department, along with the purchase of several items and the submission of a grant application.

The meeting will begin at 1PM on Tuesday, February 26th at Amarillo City Hall (601 S. Buchanan). For details, please visit amarillo.gov.
