AISD Taps Loomis for Superintendent Job

Doug Loomis looks set to become the next superintendent of the Amarillo Independent School District.

Loomis was selected this week as the sole finalist for the position following the sudden retirement of superintendent Dana West last year. Loomis, the current interim superintendent, was selected as the lone finalist for the job on a 5-2 vote this week, with trustees John Betancourt and Robin Malone voting against.

In a statement, Loomis said he is excited at the prospect of becoming the next superintendent for AISD.

“I started here in AISD fresh out of college as an elementary teacher,” Loomis said .”I met my wife, a fellow elementary school teacher, during those early years of my career here. We raised our son and daughter in the schools here. This District is intertwined in the fabric that makes up my family and some of the best years of my life. I’m honored to have the opportunity to be here leading this great district forward and working on behalf of the students and teachers.”

Board members must now wait nearly a month before Loomis can officially be confirmed to the job.
