Betancourt Declares Candidacy for Vacant AISD Seats

John Betancourt hopes to serve the people of the Amarillo Independent School District again soon.

This week, Betancourt, a former Amarillo ISD trustee and business consultant, announced his plans to apply for consideration to replace either Trustee Renee McCown or Trustee John Ben Blanchard following their recent resignations from the AISD school board. Betancourt said through a Facebook post that he decided to apply after encouragement from members of the public.

Betancourt previously served as a trustee for the Amarillo Independent School District from 2015 through May 2019. Betancourt was ousted in an eight candidate cumulative election earlier on May 4th, placing fifth.

Interested candidates for the school board can apply through noon on July 3rd.
