TxDOT Asks Candidates to Keep Signs Off Highways

Attention, candidates!

This week, the local office of the Texas Department of Transportation released a statement asking candidates not to place yard signs on highways. Placing yard signs on or within a highway right-of-way is illegal in Texas. This law also prohibits signs or postings on any objects within the right of way. Campaign signs can be posted on private property, however, with the owner’s permission.

If a sign is placed within the right of way, TxDOT will remove the sign without prior notice, officials say. All costs associated with removing the sign must be paid by the sign owner.
