Friends of the Cornette Library will host Dr. Alex Hunt, director of the Center for the Study of the American West (CSAW) at WT, to present “CSAW, Western American Studies, and the Pleasure of the Archive,” for their spring 2019 program at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 5 in the Cornette Library.
Hunt has been a professor of English at WT since 2002, and four years ago, he founded CSAW with the mission to foster the study of the American West at WT and build bridges between the University, the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum and the regional populace.
A noted researcher, Hunt has donated more than 1,000 books as well as 16 archival boxes of his research files to the Cornette Library. With this material made available to the public at the Cornette’s Special Collections department, researchers benefit from Hunt’s trove of notes, manuscripts and various ephemera.
In his lecture on April 5, Hunt will highlight his experiences as a researcher and the importance of regional libraries, museums and archives. He also will discuss ways to involve future generations of researchers to study and promote the American West and the Texas Panhandle.
A reception at 6:30 p.m. will precede the 7 p.m. lecture. The event is free and open to the public.
